Roger Federer vs Tomas Berdych live

Tomas Berdych beat Roger Federer in a famous three-set triumph in their first ever meeting all the way back in 2004 at the Athens Olympics? It goes without saying so much has happened since then (with Federer arguably claiming the mantle as the greatest player ever to pick up a racquet), but, 14 years later, could

Berdych conjure up another memorable victory over the Swiss legend? Federer leads their head-to-head 19-6 and has won their last eight encounters, including four at the Australian Open and one on Rod Laver Arena 12 months ago, which was ultimately the catalyst match that led to Federer’s title in Melbourne and overall resurgence throughout 2017. However, Berdych is playing his best tennis in years this tournament after shaking off a back injury in the off-season. It’s must-watch quarter-final tennis as Federer and Berdych take to court around…

It’s been smoothing sailing for Federer so far as he attempts to defend the Australian Open title he won in such extraordinary circumstances last season, advancing into the quarter-finals at Melbourne Park for the 14th time. Currently on an 11-match winning streak at the Australian Open, the 36-year-old Federer is now the oldest man to reach the quarter-finals since iconic Aussie Ken Rosewall did in 1977 at the age of 43.

Out of all the top seeds, Federer has certainly had the most comfortable path to the last eight. He’s been fortunate enough to receive the added benefit of playing the bulk of his matches at night while others have been forced to play through inhuman 40C temperatures during the day, while his opponents haven’t exactly been proven world-beaters, with Aljaz Bedene, Jan-Lennard Struff, Richard Gasquet (forever underwhelming against top 10 players) and Marton Fucsovics providing little resistance. In fact, it was the inexperienced (at this level)

Fucsovics who arguably challenged Federer the most out of that aforementioned foursome, with the Hungarian making a solid match of it throughout the first two sets of a 6-4 7-6(3) 6-2 scoreline before he faded away in the third.

Rafael Nadal vs Marin Cilic live

Rafael Nadal is just three wins away from joining Australian icons Rod Laver and Roy Emerson as the only players to have won each of the four Grand Slam titles twice – can the Spaniard move a step closer to that achievement on Tuesday at Melbourne Park when he comes up against sixth seed Marin Cilic? Nadal, who we must remember is playing his first tournament of the season, dropped his first set of the tournament in his previous round, but all things considered, he has been in ridiculously good form and is building for the business end of the Australian Open nicely. But then we have Cilic, the surprise 2014 U.S. Open champion and reigning Wimbledon runner-up – a man who has made a habit of flying under the radar at slams only to pop up and deliver a stunning performance when we least expect it. Could that happen on Tuesday? Nadal and Cilic take to court at 7.00pm local time on Tuesday (8.00am GMT).

After breezing through his opening round against Victor Estrella Burgos, subduing Leonardo Mayer in a tough straight sets challenge and then accounting for Damir Dzumhur in another comfortable three-set triumph, Nadal was finally forced to raise his level on Sunday in his R16 clash with 24th seed Diego Schwartzman – and he passed the test with flying colours. Nadal had won all seven sets he had played against Schwartzman coming into the match, but the ultra-competitive Argentine had always fought well in their past encounters – and he was rewarded for all his fight and grit as he became the first player to take a set off the top seed at this year’s Australian Open.

Roger Federer will face Hungary’s unseeded Marton Fucsovics Monday in the fourth round of the 2018 Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena. Federer, the reigning champion at Melbourne Park, is coming off a straight sets victory over French veteran Richard Gasquet in the third round on Saturday.

With the match getting underway at 3 p.m. AEDT, Federer and Fucsovics could face extreme weather conditions. Former champions Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal had previously criticised the organisers for letting players battle soaring temperatures in Melbourne that touched 40C on several occasions this past week.

Federer and Fucsovics, ranked No. 80 in the world, would be squaring off for the first time. The 25-year-old Hungarian beat Argentina’s Nicolas Kicker in the previous round to set up the biggest match of his career. Fucsovics upset American 13th seed in the second round Sam Querrey last Thursday.

During his 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Gasquet Saturday, Federer hit 12 aces and won 80 percent of his first serve points in a clinical performance. After the game, the five-time Australian Open winner revealed that he spent extra time working on his service game during the injury layoff in 2016. Since returning from injury, Federer won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this past year to resurrect his career at age 36.

Roger Federer vs Richard Gasquet live

Roger Federer‘s placement atop the Rod Laver Arena once more has caused a bit of a stir but his match with Richard Gasquet being there is arguably the least controversial of all as the pair prepare to face off for the 19th time. If he were to advance,

Federer’s round 4 against Nicolas Kicker or Marton Fucsovics being placed in the day session seems a sensible move to avoid further criticism.

Gasquet has played two players ranked outside the top 100 to begin the tournament and defeated both of them with the minimal of fuss.

He broke 6 times overall against Lorenzo Sonego while ensuring the Italian qualifier did not break on his lone opportunity in the 6-2 6-2 6-3 win. Gasquet is currently on a 17 set losing streak against Federer and it would be no surprise at all to see Federer extend that to 20 given the Swiss’ form as he looks to defend his title

Novak Djokovic is into the third round of the Australian Open where he will meet Spain’s Albert Ramos on Saturday in Melbourne.

The six-time champion has already seen off Donald Young and Gael Monfils.

Sharapova barely missed a beat in her first match back in Melbourne since a failed doping test in 2016 resulted in a 15-month ban from tennis.

That left only Sharapova, Kerber and French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko as Grand Slam winners in the women’s draw.

The crowd sang “Happy Birthday” and gave three hoorays to celebrate Kerber’s 30th birthday.

After Djokovic levelled the match it looked as though Monfils might throw in the towel during a one-sided third set but the 31-year-old offered some late resistance in the fourth

Errol Spence Jr vs Lamont Peterson fight live

Errol Spence Jr. is looking to establish himself as a top boxer in the crowded, talented welterweight division.

A newly minted world titleholder, Spence (22-0, 19 KOs) has his sights set on a breakout year in 2018, and he’s getting things off to a solid start with a bout against seasoned veteran Lamont Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Barclays Center has played host to several excellent fights over the past couple of years, and the crowds are often spirited and engaged. The primetime Showtime slot also holds plenty of prestige, a suitable platform for both the ambitious Spence and Peterson, a world champion in two weight classes in his career.

The 28-year-old southpaw is Ring’s No. 2 welterweight and No. 8 pound-for-pound fighter (Peterson is ranked sixth in the welterweight division by the magazine).

He’s won by stoppage in his last nine bouts, defeating several quality opponents along the way. In his most recent bout, Spence went across the pond to take on Kell Brook in his home country of England. Spence dominated the bout en route to an 11th-round knockout win

When: Saturday, Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. ET

Where: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York

The UFC returns for its first pay-per-view offering of 2018 as UFC 220 takes place from the TD Garden in Boston.

The main event features Stipe Miocic defending the UFC heavyweight championship against No. 1-ranked Francis Ngannou. In the co-main event, Daniel Cormer defends the light heavyweight championship when he faces No. 2 ranked Volkan Oezdemir.

Ngannou could knock him out just like he did Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovksi before him. He might have tremendous takedown defense or an outstanding guard, which makes Miocic think twice about taking him to the canvas or leads to a submission win instead of another Street Fighter V finish on the feet. He might have the gas tank to go 25 minutes at a good clip and simply outwork the Ohio native from start to finish. We just don’t know.

What I do know is that Miocic is a complete fighter who has been in this position before and while a lot can change in a couple years especially with someone who seems to pick up techniques as quickly as Ngannou — I can’t shake the fact that Luis Henrique and Anthony Hamilton were able to get Ngannou to the ground with relative ease and believe Miocic will be able to do the same. It’s the safest path to avoiding the challenger’s blistering power and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Miocic employ the strategy he used to perfection against Mark Hunt against Ngannou on Saturday night in Boston

Rafael Nadal vs Damir Dzumhur live

Rafael Nadal is yet to drop a set in this year’s Australian Open and he will look to keep up that record when he takes on Damir Dzumhur in the third round on Friday.

The Spaniard has seen off Victor Estrella Burgos and Leonardo Mayer so far, despite complaints about the extreme heat in Melbourne.

Rafael Nadal is coming off a straight sets win over Leonardo Mayer that took 32 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 80 percent of his first serve points and 60 percent of his second serve points. Nadal won 55 of 69 first serve points and was broken just once. Nadal has yet to drop a set this tournament and his injury concerns seem to be a thing of the past, as he’s moving well. While struggling with his return at times, especially in the third set, Nadal proves he’s still more than capable of winning all of the big points and never allowing his opponent to get comfortable. Nadal hopes to make the fourth round of a grand slam for the sixth straight appearance. Nadal has won eight of his last 11 matches on hard court.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Los Angeles Kings live

the 2017-18 NHL season continues with a double header on Thursday night. In the early game, the New York Rangers host the Buffalo Sabres at 7:30 p.m. ET.

These two teams will be going head-to-head for the first time since they met in the 2018 Winter Classic which the Rangers won 3-2 in overtime.

The Sabres are back in action after a six-day break. They went into their bye week with a 3-1 win over Columbus, but they had dropped their previous five games.

The first half of the season couldn’t have gone much worse for Buffalo. Only the Arizona Coyotes have accumulated less points (28) than the Sabres’ 31.

Even though their playoff dreams are all but crushed, they’ll still have to find motivation to play out the rest of the season. The wins and losses might not matter at this point, but showing professional pride always does.

Buffalo Sabres vs New York Rangers live

Weeks after the outdoor hockey season arrived with the NHL 100 Classic, it’s time for the 10th Winter Classic.

An annual outdoor showdown to welcome in the new year, this season’s rendition is all about the Big Apple, as the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers will square off at Citi Field, home of MLB’s New York Mets.

A little bit of penny pinching may have been behind the NHL’s decision to make the Sabres the “home” team in the 2018 Classic, which will be hosted hundreds of miles from Buffalo on New Year’s Day. But it also makes for a tribute to the first-ever Winter Classic, which was inaugurated in 2008 when the Sabres welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Buffalo Bills’ Ralph Wilson Stadium (now New Era Field) in Orchard Park.

Among the NHL’s most-watched games, the Classic has featured the Rangers once before — New York topped the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in 2012. This year’s matchup will also play host to some vintage threads for each side.
